Abstract
Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) is a highly malignant disease with an extremely poor
prognosis.
Epidemiology
HCC is a major cancer with approximately one million deaths annually in the world.
The high incidence in eastern Asia, especially Taiwan Taipei(100 per 105),
People's Republic of China(32 per 105), Japan(16 per 105).
and etc, has been reported. In Korea, the incidence rates of primary liver cancer were
33.1 per 105in male and 7.0 per 105 in female. This figure
shows that Korea is one of the most prevalent country for HCC. Indeed, this high
incidence results from high prevalence of Hepatitis B virus infection'. This is different
from cases of other countries in view of the fact that the main causes of HCC are
non-viral factor in other western countries and Hepatitis C virus infection in Japan.
